EPSRC to invest £84.2 million in postgraduate training through doctoral training grants

UK research funder, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), has announced £84.2 million for doctoral training grants (DTGs), stipends awarded to institutions to fund PhD students. This represents an increase of £1.2 million on last year and includes £10 million for doctoral prizes and £1 million for travel grants. The DTGs are allocated to universities on the basis of EPSRC research grant income, so the larger the university’s EPSRC research grant, the larger its DTG will be.

‘This new investment provides universities with flexible funding to support doctoral students in their own priority areas,’ said EPRSC chief executive David Delpy. ‘The grants will enable students to work with world-class research leaders, on innovative, excellent science and develop new technologies to tackle the many global challenges we face.’
