New catalysts based on earth-abundant metals are ‘game-changer’ for hydrogen production

Simply bringing an ordinary permanent magnet within touching distance of a reaction vessel splitting water to make hydrogen can double the process’ efficiency. Slashing the amount of energy required to split water opens the way to industrial production of hydrogen and an economy that runs off of the gas powered by renewable energy.
