Yes, there are some intensely colored Ln complexes. Terbium(III) complexes are often intensely green, for example. Ho(III) complexes are often bright pink and will exhibit the Alexandrite effect and change color depending on the lighting source. There are a number of ways to enhance the color of Ln and An complexes. While f-f transitions are Laporte-forbidden, and thus the intense of the absorption is low, the selections rules can be relaxed by removing a center of symmetry from the complexes. Moreover, in crystals one can create systems that crystallize in polar space groups where the permanent dipole in the crystal enhances the color significantly.
