One dead and 22 hospitalised after accident at Carlsberg site

One person has died and several others were hospitalised following an ammonia leak at a Carlsberg brewery in Northampton, UK.

The release occurred at 12:30pm on 9 November. A further 22 people were hospitalised, including 11 Carlsberg employees and 11 members of the emergency services who attended the incident. While the majority were released from hospital the same day, one worker remained in a ‘serious but stable condition’.

Ammonia is widely used in refrigeration systems used in the brewing industry. Production at the facility has been halted while an investigation takes place.
