One further worker injured as tank explodes during welding work

Local news reports suggest that six workers have been killed and one injured in an explosion at Hanwha Chemical’s plant in Ulsan, South Korea.

The incident occurred on 3 July as workers were conducting welding work on a waste storage tank at the site, which predominantly produces polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The blast is suspected to have been caused by welding sparks igniting methane and vapours from the tank. Operations at the plant are suspended while a formal investigation is carried out.
