Up to 400 positions affected as Ethicon subsidiary leaves Livingston

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) medical devices subsidiary Ethicon plans to close its plant in Livingston, UK, and has begun consultation with the 400 employees who could be affected. The plant manufactures surgical sutures, whose production would be absorbed by other sites after the closure.

The move is part of a global restructuring effort across J&J’s orthopaedic, surgical and cardiovascular devices segment, which will see around 3000 jobs eliminated by the end of 2017.
