Five others injured when wastewater treatment device detonated

Two people have been killed and a further five injured after wastewater treatment equipment exploded at a chemical plant in east China, according to state news agency Xinhua.

All seven affected workers were hospitalised. Two died and the remaining five are in stable condition. The plant, owned by fine chemicals producer Lianhetech, manufactures phosgene-based products according to the company website. No chemical leaks were reported as a result of the explosion, and production has been halted to allow investigation of the incident.
