A fire at a private fertiliser plant in Mehsana district of Gujarat, India, left two of the six workers present at the plant dead, and two others hospitalised in critical condition, according to national news reports. The cause of the blaze, which broke out early in the morning of 14 September, is unknown. Fire crews brought the incident under control, allowing the bodies of the deceased to be recovered and identified. Further investigations are underway.

The same day, another fire broke out at a Gujarat chemical facility – chlorotoluene derivatives manufacturer Sanghvi Organics in Bharuch, around 250km away. 26 workers were in the plant at the time, but all were rescued with no casualties recorded. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
