Approximately 83% of adults in the US want government and industry to do more to ensure chemical safety in the country, as well as increase transparency around the chemicals currently in use. That’s according to a survey carried out by The Pew Charitable Trusts and the global market research firm Ipsos that polled more than 5300 Americans in October. The findings, released on 26 February, came from a national survey.

In addition, 84% of the survey respondents stated that the government ‘needs to do more to identify and regulate harmful chemicals found in everyday products’ and 83% said they want companies to tell them more about the chemicals in their products. Meanwhile, 77% indicated that polluters should be primarily responsible for the costs associated with cleaning up harmful chemical contamination, while 23% said the government should bear the primary responsibility for such expenses.
